The Ultimate Project Handoff Checklist
5 min readDelivering a project isn't just about sending a WeTransfer link. It's about closing the loop professionally so your client has everything they need.
1. File Organization
Never send a cluttered zip file. Organize your deliverables into clear folders (e.g., "Final_Assets", "Source_Files", "Documentation"). Rename files clearly so the client knows exactly what "v3_FINAL_FINAL.jpg" actually is.
2. Documentation
Include a `README` or a simple PDF guide explaining how to use the files. If you built a website, include login credentials (securely!) and basic maintenance instructions. This reduces the "Help, how do I do X?" emails later.
3. Rights and Licenses
Be transparent about usage rights. If you used stock photos, provide the license keys. If there are fonts involved, link to where they can purchase licenses. Clarify who owns the final IP (Intellectual Property).
4. The Final Invoice
It is standard practice to send the final invoice alongside the deliverables (or immediately after approval). Ensure your invoice clearly lists the completed milestones so there is no confusion about what is being billed.
